The Bikes
Home
A good, well maintained dirt bike is the cornerstone of every enjoyable enduro tour.
As always, this is a compromise between bike purchasing cost (we're not sponsored by any motorcycle company - the touring business here is too small to be attractive for any bike manufacturer), bike operating cost, availability of spare parts, reliability and the "fun factor" of the bikes.
Considering all this, in 2009 we purchased brand-new fuel injected 2009 Kawasaki KLX250., and bored 3 of them out to 300cc.
In stock form they are quite restricted, but have great potential. Brakes and suspension are first rate, and the engine (4-valve head and 11,000rpm redline) only needs a few goodies to turn out plenty of power for fast trail riding.
Modifications:- electronic de-restriction removed
- bigger header pipe (stocker is much too small)
- hi-flow muffler
- racing cams
- airbox snorkel
- aluminium handlebars
- short levers
- 47 rear sprocket
- skid plate
- two-piece clutch perch (stocker is just one piece and needs new left handgrip after replacement)
- proper dirt tyres
See picture at the bottom of this page below our videos.
For twostroke fans we have two Honda CRM250.... one of them is currently being bored out to 300cc.
